In the Glance of the Rain by Finn Hobart - Poetry Writing Competition 2025 1st Place
The rain falls And the trees gasp And their leaves cascade Around the feet of a boy, whose trembling hand Is reaching out for the first time to meet the autumn land. Everything comes to pass, And the rain falls And the rivers breathe And their banks swell Over the boys wizened feet, who bore him over sky-sung hills And into valleys where herons lent him the secret languages from their bills, Which now he offers back to the long rain In exchange for having lived.

Absence of a Memory by Finn Hobart - Poetry Writing Competition 2025 3rd Place
The sunset beamed through the waves astride the island, Etching the light into the cliffs, the sea, And the grass below my feet As the sky slept in a violet cloak overhead. Standing there, I felt the entirety of myself Coursing through the whole of it, Until every reflection I’d ever made Was written through the world. The cold wind cradled me, In every shade I’d ever worn, And I think I was struck with euphoria. And I looked to where you might’ve stood, Waiting for your laug

A Midwinter Night’s Dream by Evelyn Sprague - Poetry Writing Competition 2025 2nd Place
I was spinning, Laid back in the middle of the merry-go-round. The stars, As I spun, Were like snowflakes- Falling in flurries, But never touching the ground. For a moment, I too was a star, Falling, And my lips were chapped but I was smiling, And those winter fireflies were spiraling Higher and wider- The universe expanding. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. And with human hubris I was convinced that in turn- All that infinite beauty was watching me. Stardust w

Ode to Matrick Paier by Duncan Mitchell - Poetry Writing Competition 2024 1st Place
Ode to a non-specific Matrick Paier Paier, oh Paier, where for art thou? In lecture halls, with furrowed brow. You guide us through code, through lines and loops, Yet half of us sit, eyes closed, in groups. Your monotone voice, so painfully bleak, Puts us to sleep—oh, what a treat! With Java so broken, and Web Services grim, Our chances of passing seem painfully slim. First year comes by, with hope in the air Oh but your module, fills me with despair Matrick's dull lectures

AstroGirl by John Robson - Poetry Writing Competition 2024 2nd Place
Once more at my desk, a familiar sight Passion burns orange as flickers guide my night. The Goal’s to kiss the stars but I end up face 2 ceiling I inhale the flame, just the same but get a different feeling. Space pirate once more I try to find the end Searching for a universe where we can be something more than friends The cosmos dance and I’m entranced I cannot find my way Written in the stars, a fucking horrid fate I promised you the constellations but cannot find the conc

Sequence Letters by Lewis Galloway - Poetry Writing Competition 2024 3rd Place
Names are just sequenced letters Void of resonance, what once was Enough to make my heart swell Now is enough for brief recollection Everyday faces in places I'm not Hallways I no longer walk Feel like dreams or visions Of a life long gone Grey stone houses, looping streets Marching bands and orange bars Holding spirits; bodies and lives I knew long ago Who I may have loved And lived shared memories with Running and hiding on winter nights Though confined, you'd confide in m
